Manipulation Under Anesthesia

Manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) is a series of mobilization, stretching, and traction procedures performed while the patient is under anesthesia (usually general anesthesia or moderate sedation). Manipulation is intended to break up fibrous and scar tissue to relieve pain and improve range of motion.
MUA can be performed to offer relief from chronic and recurrent back pain and other types of pain that have not responded to long-term conservative.
